Art/Desgin Department Intern

Food Network Magazine (Hearst Corporation) is seeking a graphic design student for a summer internship in the Art Department. The intern will assist in the daily workflow of the magazine. Duties will include: updating layouts, minor imaging work, and some design. Candidates should have an interest in magazine publishing, strong working knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop. Interest in food a plus. Duration: May – August Applicants must receive college credit for the internship this position is unpaid. We are currently looking for a Graphic Design intern to join the Creative Development team located in New York, NY. The ideal candidate should be a current student or recent graduate, with a diverse portfolio and strong research, problem solving, and storytelling abilities. This is a paid position.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
You should be a highly collaborative and multi-faceted designer with the ability to communicate a strategic idea through visual storytelling and video prototyping. Additionally, you should display, and be able to demonstrate, the following characteristics:
• Powerful Storytelling. The intuitive ability to represent complex concepts as clear, concise and compelling stories.
• Creative Sensibilities. A well-honed aesthetic appreciation, and experience generating results across a range of disciplines.
• Contagious Positive Passion. You should get excited by big ideas and be able to infectiously stoke the fires of those around you.
• Strong Opinions. You should be prepared to defend and support your opinions and perspectives through insightful, strategic rationale.

Intern can expect to learn

As direct support to the Creative Development team, you will work closely with graphic designers, motion graphic designers, storytellers, 3D renderers, and corporate identity specialists. Specific tasks will include: product research, ideation/sketching, presentation preparation, user interface design support, branding, product graphics support, video production, and storyboarding. In addition to specific design-related tasks, you will be exposed to the rich cross-disciplinary culture of Fahrenheit 212.

GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERNSHIP (paid internship)

BAM Architecture Studio is a design oriented architecture firm headquartered in New York City. BAM is offering a summer internship for graphic design majors. The ideal candidate will be in their last year of design school and eligible to work in the United States.

The right candidate must have a good working knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. We are looking for someone with a clean aesthetic, solid eye for design, and who can take initiative on projects assigned to them. The position mainly entails assisting the graphic design and marketing team with our internal and external marketing efforts, both print and digital.

The position pays $15 per hour for approximately 16-32 hours of work per week for June through August.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP AT VISIONAIRE (unpaid internship)

Design interns assist the art department with a variety of daily tasks as well as contributing to the development of Visionaire Issues. The right candidate is interested in pushing the boundaries of art & fashion publishing through their ability to marry technical proficiency with sophisticated concepts. Design interns are expected to participate in weekly Visionaire brainstorms and manage their own projects under the direction of the art department.

Design / Creative Responsibilities:
+ Understanding of basic graphic concepts, typography, branding, book layout, and packaging
+ General understanding of 3D design concepts & Interactive design concepts
+ Creative problem solving, idea generation, adapt to change
+ Hand skills for model building and prototype development
+ Interest in Art, Fashion, Design and popular culture

Software Requirements:
+ Understanding and proficiency in Adobe InDesign
+ Adobe Photoshop including image manipulation, basic 2D rendering, basic photo retouching and color correcting
+ Adobe Illustrator vector manipulation
