Mentorship Opportunity–Design for Film, Stage & TV! Apply by Oct. 8, 2021

Equity Through Design Mentorship College Student Application 2021-2022


We are stage and film design professionals, members of United Scenic Artist Local 829, creating mentorships that emphasize Black, Indigenous, and People of Color [BIPOC] from a range of junior high school, high school and college students.

We strive to expand their orientation towards non-performance based careers in Film/TV/Theater by providing interactive career discussion panels and one-on-one artistic, personal and professional mentorship. Inherent in this mission is the intent to develop an awareness of the design and craft-oriented career possibilities in our field as well as guidance toward film and theater educational programs in the New York area. At the heart of these efforts Is giving attention to the individual students and fostering a reciprocal relationship between USA 829 and scholastic organizations in an effort to shift the culture of both the schools and the entertainment industry toward values of diversity, equity and inclusion.



-Primary Mentor / Student Participant Recommended Activities: Nov – May
Primary Mentors will be available to communicate with their assigned Student Participant throughout the length of program for brief general guidance (i.e. portfolio and career opportunity questions).

-Regular Correspondence: touching base begins in November
Primary Mentors advise Student Participants through regular contact about their progress to engage with their education and design skill set development. Meetings are recommended to occur twice a month.

-In Person Activities: TBD Per COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidelines
One-on-one Mentor / Student Participants meetings and Student Participant visits to productions in progress, exploring the art department, costume shop, and/or sound stages/theaters to meet and hear from as many crew in their work environments as possible.

-Saturday Sessions: monthly panels throughout the academic year
Monthly Zoom webinars with professionals in the entertainment industry offering their expertise on a variety of topics.

We are looking for a Community Manager who will be handling a wide range of social media projects, is very proactive in initiating and responding to posts and comments and is able to work independently with little to no supervision. Well organized, flexible and enjoy the deadline-driven challenges of working at an ad agency. Previous advertising, marketing, media or entertainment work environment experience preferred.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following):

  • Collaborate in the development of social media strategies and tactics for client campaigns
  • Oversee the day-to-day posting, monitoring, engagement and general maintenance of all social media platforms and other primary owned channels for all clients
  • Execute long-lead interactive campaigns that spark fan engagement and interest in the show and get national – even global – attention
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design and strategy and recommend them when strategically appropriate

JOB REQUIREMENTS (include but are not limited to the following):

  • 1+ year digital/social media marketing experience, ideally in the entertainment industry
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms (TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Google+, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed to meet marketing objectives
  • Independent, motivated, creative and detail oriented. Ability to quickly shift priorities
  • Solid technical understanding and strong computer skills (including MS Office and Mac OS X), and the ability to pick up new tools quickly
  • Experienced with social media scheduling and analytical tools such as Sprout Social, Falcon, HeyOrca
  • Ability to identify potential negative or crisis situation and apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues
  • HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, blogging, creative writing, video or other skills related to social media marketing are a plus
  • Flexibility to work evenings when needed
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive working relationships
  • Must be able to problem-solve in a timely manner
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Advertising, Marketing or relevant field preferred

We’re looking for someone who not only has an absolute love of design, but a knack for code as well. This position requires full knowledge of the Shopify platform as well as Adobe XD. Paid Marketing Intern

The Queens College Marketing Department is looking for an ambitious and resourceful individual who wants to build a career in communications, design or related fields. We offer a flexible schedule, hands-on training and support, and the opportunity to experience the non-profit marketing industry from the inside—all while helping students earn a high-quality, low-cost education. The successful candidate will be enrolled in a major university or college; studying marketing, communications, journalism, English, media and film, computer science, graphic design or a related field; preference will be given to students who will earn course credit for their work during the internship.

Reports to: The Marketing-Digital design intern will report to the senior digital designer.

Responsibilities: The Marketing-Digital design intern will be responsible for assisting the senior digital designer and the Marketing Department in the development and implementation of marketing and public relations campaigns, including but not limited to graphic design for advertising, social media content, email and web pages.

Responsibilities will be determined by the candidate’s skills and cater to their areas of interest, and may include:

Assisting with the development of original content for various social media channels

Producing creative photography and video to highlight individuals, initiatives and the campus

  • Creating HTML/CSS newsletters
  • Creating vector graphics for digital signage, ads, webpages and social media
  • Supporting the Marketing team and the Office of Communications and Marketing in daily administrative tasks Qualifications:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
