Using a keyboard and mouse is not how we interact with each other in the real world, so why do we still use these archaic tools to communicate with our machines? In this course we will be focusing on how we can design physical interfaces and use microprocessors like the Arduino, along with sensors, motors, knobs, switches, cameras, etc. to allow humans to more naturally interact with digital and physical installations.

No prerequisite required.

This class challenges students to make illustrations for the emergent field of digital publishing. Students will experiment with simple animation and GIF-making techniques, investigate and pursue online publishing opportunities, and develop a competitive portfolio of work for future employment.

This class will introduce the use of iPhone as a tool to shoot, edit and post photos/videos. Through lectures, exercises and assignments, students will work with a variety of free and low-cost camera and editing apps, hone skills in visual storytelling, and explore strategies to maximize the potential of social media to engage audiences.

Upper Level-Animation

Course Name: ARTS 370-VT: Special Topics in Design

This course is for students who want to expand on the skills they gained in ARTS 193 VT: Introduction to Digital Animation. Students will create projects that will prepare them for a career as an animator. This course is perfect for students with a concentration in Animation and Illustration.

Typeface Design

Course Name: ARTS 370-VT: Special Topics in Design
Class Number: 7660
Day & Time: Sundays 1:00PM – 4:50PM
Instructor: Thomas Jockin

This course will enable students to learn the tools of modern typeface design and take students through concept generation and creating a digital font. This is a great elective course for students interested in communication design and user experience design.

Note: Apple Computers are required for this class, the software isn’t available for a PC.

Advanced 3D Modeling

Course Name: ARTS 370-VT: Special Topics in Design

This course is for students who want to expand on the skills they gained in ARTS 213 3D Modeling and ARTS 279 3D Animation. Projects will focus on exploring how 3D modeling can be used for next-generation user interfaces and, prepare students for a career as an animator and communication designer.

Prerequisite: ARTS 213 3D Modeling
