Heads Up-Changes Coming to the Graphic Design Major

headsup

As of September, 2014, there will be changes to the graphic design major. This does not affect current majors, only students who declare a graphic design major after September, 2014. See below.

Undergraduate Programs in Graphic Design
Major (60 credits)

The Art Department of Queens College offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design that provides students the creative, intellectual, and technical skills to become effective communicators in the new century. Students learn to shape the form and content of media across a variety of formats—from print to digital. In addition to the core requirements, the program includes courses in animation, digital imaging, digital moviemaking, web design, interaction design, publication design, advertising design, graphic novel and digital illustration. Students graduate equipped with the skills to succeed in careers, graduate school or both.

The Art Department also offers Minors in Graphic Design, Digital Graphics, Animation and illustration, and in Digital Moviemaking and Imagemaking.

Students who wish to major in Graphic Design must meet with an advisor prior to declaring the major. Admission requirements include a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 or approval by portfolio review. Program standards for satisfactory progress require students to maintain a GPA of 2.75 or better within the major and receive no grade lower than C in any requirements for the major. Students accepted into the major are requested to meet with an advisor once each semester to ensure adherence to major requirements. A laptop computer is strongly encouraged for students majoring in graphic design.
