How to run “Hour of Code” training session

Long Island Women in Tech runs “Hour of Code” sessions for local students throughout the year. This gives students a great head-start into learning to code.

With CS Education week coming up in December, we’ll once again be running a “How To” session to teach you how to plan and run an Hour of Code. I’ll be presenting and sharing my lessons learned after teaching over 700 kids how to code.

You won’t want to miss this!

Kickoff Event: the Regionals for the New York Business Plan Competition, more…

The regional competition is sponsored by LIU and open to current graduate and undergraduate students at any accredited NYC-based institution.  Last year the competition categories included:

  • Social Entrepreneurship and Non-profits
  • Advanced Technology
  • Clean Technology
  • Products
  • Services
Last year, students that advanced past the Regionals to the statewide competition were eligible to win a grand prize valued at $100,000.

NYC announced a challenge program this week that is aimed at getting innovators, designers, technologists, entrepreneurs, etc focused on solving some of NYC’s most interesting problems. It is called NYCx and you can learn more about it here.

SIParCS applications are open!

We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2018 Summer Internships in Parallel Computational Science.The application deadline for the 2018 SIParCS program is January 19, 2018, at 4 pm Mountain Time.
This year we are offering students the opportunity to work with ten projects ranging in topic from Fortran to cybersecurity processes, to machine learning, digital asset management, and HPC training. If you are interested in applying, please review our project statements of work.
Once you have reviewed the statements of work, please visit our UCAR Jobs site to apply.
Applicants will be required to submit the following:
